Bluesfest Band performance

Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest's 'Be in the Band' program mentors young people who have an interest in music. Bluesfest provided 10 to 12 weeks of semi-private lessons for 10 pairs of students (ages 11 to 17) in the Lowertown community. York Street School and the Lowertown Community Resource Centre are working in partnership with Bluesfest and the Ottawa Folklore centre to provide music lessons, working towards putting together a band to perform at the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest festival in July 1011.



Graffiti art backdrop

A group of Lowertown youth participated in a series of 10 workshops on the art of graffiti given by Ottawa Urban Arts . Together, they pulled together a fabulous canvas to be the backdrop for our performances!



Slam Poets from Lowertown!

A number of talented young women have decided to come and share their thoughts and art with the world.



Animation Videos (6-8 year olds)
After working hard, creating stories, characters and learning how to make stop-action movies, these talented children are ready to show off their films!


Multimedia Videos
Awesome Arts participants' imaginations and productivity were put into overdrive as they created multimedia presentations designed to demonstrate their learning in new and engaging ways that are both informative and entertaining.


Theatre skits

These skits, performed by the youth of Lowertown, were created during the Awesome Arts theatre workshops lead by William Somers and Simon Bradshaw of Salamander Theatre .

Emcee & Slam Poetry

Our talented emcee for the evening,Ian Keteku is also poet, musician and freelance journalist. Born as Ian Nana Yaw Adu Budu Keteku, his birth name mimics his diverse talents and interests. He was a fabulous emcee, dancing, performing spoken word poetry, keeping the audience laughing and entertained between sets. As for slam poetry Asha Kayd, a talented young woman from Ottawa, shared two of her powerful pieces with the audience.



Documentary filmmaker

Mitch St. Pierre is a documentary filmmaker who doesn’t let any obstacle stand in the way between him and his story!
